Privacy Policy for Limit: Screen Time & Focus

Privacy Policy

Limit — “Screen Time & Focus”
Effective date: July 25, 2026

Limit is built so that your information never leaves your phone. We do not collect it, we cannot see it, and there is no account to create. This policy explains exactly what that means.

The short version

Limit collects no personal data and transmits nothing off your device. Everything the app needs — the apps you choose to limit, your daily budget, your streak, and your activity list — is stored only on your phone. There are no servers, no analytics, no accounts, and no tracking.

Information the app uses on your device

To do its job, Limit reads and stores the following locally on your phone only. None of it is ever sent anywhere.

  • App usage information. With your permission, Android tells Limit which of the apps you selected are open and for how long, so the app can enforce the daily budget you set. This information is read in real time and is not recorded, copied, or transmitted. Limit only ever looks at the apps you explicitly choose to limit.
  • Your settings. The apps you select, your daily time budget, reset time, streak count, and the “instead you could” activity list are saved on your device so the app remembers them between sessions.

All of this is stored in the app’s private storage on your phone. When you uninstall Limit, it is permanently and completely removed.

Permissions and why they are needed

Limit requests only the permissions required for its core function. Each is used solely for the purpose described below.

  • Usage access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) — lets the app see which of your selected apps are in use so it can apply your limit. This is the permission that makes the app work; it is never used to build a profile of you, and the data is never stored or shared.
  • Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — lets the app show its reminder screen over an app once you reach its limit. The overlay is shown only for the apps you chose, and only when a limit is reached.
  • Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — lets your limits resume automatically after you restart your phone, so protection isn’t silently lost.
  • Notifications — used, where enabled, to show the app’s ongoing status. Limit works while you use your other apps, and on modern Android a persistent notification is how the system allows that.

You can review or revoke any of these permissions at any time in your phone’s Settings. Revoking usage access or display-over-apps will stop the app from being able to enforce your limits.

What we do not do

  • We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
  • We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or any third-party tracking tools.
  • We do not create accounts or ask you to sign in.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone — because we never have it.
  • We do not upload your usage information or settings to any server or cloud.

Children’s privacy

Limit is a general-audience tool and is not directed to children under 13. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.

Data security

Because Limit keeps everything on your device and transmits nothing, there is no server or database that could be breached. Your information is protected by your phone’s own security, and is removed entirely when you uninstall the app.

Changes to this policy

If this app’s functionality changes in a way that affects your privacy — for example, if advertising is introduced — we will update this policy and revise the effective date above before the change takes effect. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
